Chez Jennifer

Jennifer and I met in 5th grade on the monkey bars. She had an Eeyore bandaid and somehow in 5th grade that was something
worth bonding over.

Time passed and we didn't really see each other, until
7th grade in Mr. Shriver's class where we had to do a
project together. It ended up being called Footopia, but I
honestly have NO IDEA what the point of that project was
anymore.
("Well that project was create a continent and to learn the vocabulary of map study!" -Jennifer)
So we met again over creating a continent while learning the vocabulary of map study.

We became especially best friends after deciding the easiest way
to pass notes was in journals (because back in our day cell phones were bricks that cost you .75 cents per message). This form of communication was great- our teachers thought we were fantastic note takers. We continued the notebooks all through high school, and we each have about 10 filled with all kinds of ridiculously awesome
memories.

After we graduated, I went to Chicago for college and she ended up in good old Kearney, Nebraska.

In the SEVEN YEARS that she has lived here, I never visited.
Finally, I did.

This is her apartment.

A pixie garden, a housewarming present
from Jennifer's Grandma.

Except for these legit fairy baskets
made by a leprechaun with glitter and rainbow dust.
(or an Irishman with a hack saw)

"He was ugly enough to make the cut"

This is...Jenny 2.

Jennifer's Place: Complete with gargoyle.
(or D'Hoffryn, a vengeance demon. But, whatever)

Serenity Fountain
(it no longer flows because some buttmunch
broke it)

Coins coins coins coins

Bob & Harry's mother's pentacle, I mean obviously.

A replica of Harry Dresden's car signed by
Jim Butcher.
Magic tested, wizard approved.

I believe there may be a theme here.

Evinrude, a dragon scale betta.

Like I said, there's a theme here.

Bottles made of lavendar glass are actually really valuable now.

HOW MANY OWLS ARE THERE

This would be a great drinking game.

Cobalt blue is almost as valuable as lavendar glass.

Humanoid owls. (Yeah, they really make this stuff)

Coolest fridge ever.

Gotta get that French in there.

"The finger painted Turkey"
(with no reference)

I made an appearance :) 8th grade graduation.
(WHAT WAS I THINKING WITH THAT HAIR STYLE??)

"Those are my teeth."

Things Jennifer's grandpa used to say
to her that her grandmother painted
on her dresser.

Cult classics :)

Best friends for over a decade, and still she is the person I talk to about anything and everything. Thanks for being my person <3

Lynn + Kelly / Des Moines, Iowa

I've been doing a HORRIBLE job at blogging, but I'm going to attempt to do this a little more often. I photographed a wedding in Des Moines a couple weeks ago and wanted to share some images from it!

The lighting at Des Moines Embassy Club was so good!

Pictures of family are such an important part of
photographing a wedding.

cake + love = happiness

I stayed in Des Moines a couple days to explore a bit-

I found an absolutely fantastic taco place called Tacopocalypse. It's a must if you ever go to Des Moines!

My favorite were the Masa Fries with Korean beef.

Steampunk Alice In Wonderland

Wow I know, it's been way too long! I'm sorry! The amount of photoshoots I normally do has TRIPLED since last summer, so things are busy :) BUT I'm going to do my best to get back to blogging!

So I've known Bethany Wicker for about two years. When we met she told me all about her love for cosplay- what she failed to mention was how COMPLETELY EXCELLENT she is at making costumes!

About two months ago she emailed me and asked if I would photograph her Steampunk Alice In Wonderland costume. It took me a long time to decide if I wanted to, but finally decided to say yes. JUST KIDDING!!! Of course I IMMEDIATELY said um of course silly pants!

It wasn't until I got to the Rose Gardens three weeks ago that I saw how completely awesome her costume really was. Check it out for yourself below, and be sure to give her a shout out if you like what you see!

(p.s, she's the beautiful china doll model as well :D)

Brandon & Bethany

Bethany & Brandon met in high school 6 years ago through mutual friends. They have been two hours apart for half of their relationship due to Brandon being away for college, but have still managed to keep their relationship strong!
Brandon proposed to Bethany at his grandparents' house while celebrating Memorial Day. He took her out on a wave runner (this took much convincing!) into a back cove where he had hearts hanging from a tree, a bible verse hand written on poster board, music, wine, and a table and chairs. Apparently Brandon is extremely romantic, so it took Bethany a minute to understand what was happening! Of course she was ecstatic, and said yes :)

Here are some of my favorite images from their engagement session!

When asked about Brandon, Bethany said, "I recently moved to St. Joe to be with Brandon and it couldn't feel more complete finally being with him and not having to live so far apart. I cannot wait to marry my best friend and soul mate. I feel so very blessed to have him."

When asked about Bethany, Brandon said,"Being with Bethany for almost 6 years now has no doubt made me a better person. Even only being able to see her on the weekends for 3 of those years our relationship grew stronger through faith in God. Now starting the next chapter in our lives and being able to see her smiling face everyday only deepens my love for her. I can't wait to marry the beautiful woman that God has blessed me with."

Like the Dawn

you were the brightest shade of sun I had ever seen
your skin was gilded with the gold of the richest kings
and like the dawn you woke the world inside of me
you were the brightest shade of sun when I saw you.
